Million-dollar LOTTO MAX win in Yellowknife
Group of co-workers and family members share MAXMILLIONS win
When Pedro Patigdas scanned the LOTTO MAX ticket he shares with a couple family members and co-workers, the last thing he expected to see was the number “1” followed by six zeroes. But that’s exactly what he saw.
Today, the Yellowknife resident is celebrating winning one of the MAXMILLIONS prizes drawn on May 18 with his wife, Conecita, daughter, Phoebe, and co-workers Arleen Vuorela, Wendy Meek and Maree Oglivie
“Conecita had checked the Lotto Spot! app and saw there was a big winner in Yellowknife,” he said when claiming his prize over the phone. “I thought I should take the ticket to the store and scan it. I didn’t actually think we would be the winners, but we were!”
The Patigdases purchased the group’s $41 LOTTO MAX ticket at Glen’s Your Independent Grocer, located at 4910-50th Avenue in Yellowknife on the day of the draw. Pedro returned to the store to scan the ticket the next day.
“After I scanned the ticket, I ran to Conecita yelling, ‘Call the group! Call the group!’” he laughed. “I don’t think anyone believed me at first. We were all so surprised.”
The winners said they haven’t made any big plans for their winnings yet, but they all agree on one main thing.
“We’re all going to be debt-free!” said Conecita.
A couple group members mentioned that they also hope to do some travelling when it’s safe to do so.
