YELLOWKNIFE RESIDENT WINS $2.5 MILLION ON LOTTO 6/49

Ernest Betsina won a life-changing $2.5 million on LOTTO 6/49 prize on the May 16 draw. The Yellowknife local said the moment he realized he had the winning ticket was one filled with emotion and reflection.

“I had to take a deep breath and give thanks,” he explained. “I kept it to myself for a few days but later told my sons.”

A regular player, Betsina says he enjoys playing both LOTTO 6/49 and LOTTO MAX, drawn to the opportunity to play for larger jackpots.

“I’ve been buying tickets for a long time,” he said. “This is an incredible feeling!”

Betsina said he has two main plans for his windfall: “I’m going to pay some bills and invest the rest of the money.”

The winner picked up his winning ticket at Gastown NT Ltd., located at 356 Old Airport Road in Yellowknife. He won his $2.5 million prize by matching all five Classic draw numbers on the May 16 draw – 5, 34, 36, 41, 44 and 45. He shared the $5 million Classic Jackpot with another ticket purchased somewhere in Ontario.
