Winnipeg $1M LOTTO 6/49 winner inspired by grocery run win!

Winnipegger Michael Kearney was inspired by a recent B.C. lottery winner who won $80 million on a grocery run, and thought he’d try his luck.

“I normally play on PlayNow, but I was thinking about the guy who won while buying buns, and I thought I’d buy a ticket in store!” he said. “I was picking up milk on the way home from work, so it was a similar situation.”

The Winnipeg local was shocked to find he had also won on his grocery stop: $1 million on the May 31 draw for LOTTO 6/49!

“It sat in my wallet for quite a while before I remembered to check,” he admitted. “When I scanned it, I thought I had won the EXTRA, then I realized it was a lot more than that.”

Kearney said he’s already got his plans for the windfall set.

“I’d love to get a four-bedroom house for my family,” he smiled. “I sat my family down to tell them and there is a lot of excitement—I’m thinking the remainder will go in a trust fund for my kids.”

“Christmas this year will be a little different, that’s for sure!” he chuckled. “It’s incredibly exciting—I’ve been playing the lottery since I was legally able to buy tickets.”

Kearney purchased his winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket from Family Foods at 1881 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. He won his prize in the May 31 LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Draw with the selection: 21412149-01, a white ball.

Myth:  I’ve noticed a pattern in the numbers that have been drawn over the past few weeks.

Fact:  Human brains like to look for patterns.  But any patterns you notice in lottery numbers are meaningless.  Looking at past numbers is like looking in the rearview mirror of your car – it doesn’t tell you what’s ahead.
