Sherwood Park local wins $1M on LOTTO MAX with Play Alberta!

Alex Larson is the early bird who caught the worm (figuratively, of course)! The Sherwood Park local had an early wake up call for a round of golf and discovered his Play Alberta-purchased LOTTO MAX ticket won a $1,000,020 prize!

The new winner said he saw the courtesy email from Play Alberta first thing in the morning.

“I was playing golf—real early tee time with my boss—so I was just checking my email,” he said. “It was from Play Alberta, and it said, ‘Congratulations on your win!’”

The million-dollar email told Larson he had won the only winning MAXMILLIONS draw on the
August 1 LOTTO MAX, with the selection: 2, 7, 20, 37, 42, 43, and 46.

“I was kind of groggy but when I saw the win… I was awake!” he laughed. “I love the convenience of Play Alberta—you don’t even have to check!”

Larson said despite the excitement, he still made his tee time.

“I shared the news with my boss, and he was pretty excited for me—there were a lot of high-fives,” he laughed. “Actually, he said, ‘Breakfast is on you today!’”

The Sherwood Park winner said he works in banking, so he’s prepared to invest most of his winnings. He is going to make sure he has a little fun too though.

“I want to make my money work for me, to help meet my financial goals,” he said. “But I’m also thinking about getting a new set of [golf] clubs!”

“It’s truly a life-changing amount of money,” he added. “I’m going to Iceland, Switzerland, and Italy in the fall, so this will help with that!”

Myth:  I’ve noticed a pattern in the numbers that have been drawn over the past few weeks.

Fact:  Human brains like to look for patterns.  But any patterns you notice in lottery numbers are meaningless.  Looking at past numbers is like looking in the rearview mirror of your car – it doesn’t tell you what’s ahead.
