Manitoba friends share $250,000 EXTRA win!

A long-running tradition has three friends sharing a $250,000 EXTRA prize! Kelly Rowsell, her mother Marilyn Webster, and friend Judy Mager are celebrating a $250,000 win on the February 7 LOTTO 6/49 and EXTRA draw.

The trio has been buying tickets together for years; when it came time to check this ticket, Webster used the Lotto Spot app.

“My mom [Marilyn] scanned the ticket on the app and thought it was a $250 winner,” Rowsell explained. “When she scanned it again, she saw all the zeroes – it was unbelievable!”

Still in disbelief, they decided to triple-check the result in person.

“We rushed to the store to check the ticket on the self-scanner and then again on the terminal,” Rowsell said. “It’s unbelievable! We are in shock – completely stunned!”

Each winner has something special in mind for their share of the prize. Rowsell, from Niverville, is planning a memorable trip to Italy with her daughter.

Webster, also from Niverville, is looking forward to reconnecting with loved ones: “I’ll be headed to Newfoundland to visit family,” she said.

Meanwhile, Mager, who resides in Winnipeg, has her sights set on something a little closer to home: “Judy is going to buy a golf cart,” Rowsell added with a laugh.

After years of playing together, the friends say sharing the moment with one another makes the win even more special. Rowsell purchased the winning ticket at the Shoppers Drug Mart at 2656 Pembina Highway in Winnipeg. They won by matching all the digits in the February 7 EXTRA draw: 5295508.

Myth: If the odds are 1 in 4 on a SCRATCH ’N WIN ticket and you buy four tickets, you should be guaranteed a win.

Fact: These are overall odds (1 in 4). So you could buy four tickets and win on all four, or win on none, or wind up somewhere between the two. There’s no connection between tickets.
