Ashmont couple claims $1M LOTTO 6/49 win – nearly a year after winning!

Judy and Dennis Korop are millionaires after winning $1 million on the January 18 LOTTO 6/49 draw!

The Ashmont couple has a routine they usually follow, but it went a different direction this time around… they waited almost a year to claim their prize!

“Judy buys the tickets, and I handle the validation,” explained Dennis. “But I had this one in my pocket for a long time, so Judy actually checked it this time!”

“I handed over a stack of tickets to the cashier, and the terminal went off when he scanned one,” continued Judy. “Dennis was out in the truck, and I went to him and said, ‘This is a winning ticket!’”

The million-dollar win took them both by surprise—and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Earlier in the year, Dennis had a major health incident, and the pair said they hadn’t had a chance to check the ticket since.

“We’ve had other things on our mind,” said Judy. “This will allow us to take some time though—pay some bills and think about it.”

“We’re looking forward to breathing easier,” added Dennis.

The Korops purchased their winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket from Shoppers Drug Mart at 10405 Jasper Avenue NW in Edmonton. They won their prize in the January 18 LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball Draw with the selection: 26396197-01, a white ball.

Winners have up to one year following the draw date to claim their prize.

Myth: Players in big cities/provinces have a better chance of winning a jackpot.

Fact: Every selection has the same chance of winning as every other selection sold for the same game, regardless of where you purchase it. Over time, locations of winning tickets tend to reflect the total proportion sold in an area, but provinces and cities don’t win lotteries – individual people or groups do.
