$18M LOTTO 6/49 jackpot goes to Kisbey local!

Saskatchewan’s first jackpot win of the year is a whopping $18 million LOTTO 6/49 Gold Ball jackpot won by a Kisbey local who calls Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation home.

Cora Cuthbert’s win story sounds like something out of a sitcom—the Saskatchewan winner was at work when she scanned her ticket on the Lotto Spot app.

She called coworkers over one by one to confirm what she saw was real.

“I was like, whaaaat?!” Cuthbert laughed. “My cousin jumped out of her chair and said, ‘Oh my God, you’re a millionaire!’”

Cuthbert, flanked by her coworkers, headed to the pharmacy in Arcola where she had purchased the ticket to scan the ticket in-store.

“We got to the pharmacy, and the cashier was coming up an aisle,” Cuthbert recalled. “I showed her the ticket and said, ‘I think I won,’ and she said, ‘No way!’”

“She took the ticket and asked us if we were ready and we all said, ‘Yes!’” the Kisbey winner continued. “Then she scanned it and it came up on the screen. We all started screaming!”

Cuthbert explained in her prize claim interview that she had become friends with the owner of the Arcola pharmacy – who was within earshot of the screaming that day.

“When we told her, she started screaming with us!” Cuthbert smiled. “She asked if she could get a picture with all of us.”

Now that the excitement of the initial discovery is calming down, the first Saskatchewan jackpot winner of the year has had some time to process what this win means for her.

“It took a couple days before it started to hit me,” Cuthbert admitted. “Then I thought of my dad and started crying.”

Cuthbert’s father passed away in the summer of 2025, and she said he was the reason she regularly bought LOTTO 6/49 tickets.

“I remember my parents playing the lottery when I was a kid and for most of my life and now, I do,” she said. “That’s the only reason I play.”

Cuthbert’s family connections also are inspiring her to spend her winnings in ways that bring her community closer to her… in more ways than one.

“The first thing I’m doing is helping my brothers and sisters,” she said at her prize claim interview. “We’re going to spend a family weekend in Edmonton together …and then I’m going to Hawaii!”

“I’m taking six ladies with me and we’re going in the first-class [airline seat] pods – I’ve always wanted to sleep in a pod!” she beamed. “Hawaii has big pow wows so we’re going to one together – we’ll get the full experience at least once!”

And Cuthbert isn’t stopping there – she’s had years to dream about how she would spend a jackpot win.

“I want to make sure people have better access to support and medical care on reserve.”

And that kindness, support and care is personal for Cuthbert, who has spent years of work as a homecare aide on reserve.

“I’m retiring finally!” she smiled.

Cuthbert’s final wish is to give her beloved dog, “Babygirl,” a full spa day.

Cuthbert purchased her winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket from McKay’s Arcola Pharmacy located at 111 Main St. in Arcola. She won her prize in the January 7 Gold Ball Draw with the selection: 37383130-06, the gold ball.
