Alberta family wins $18 Million on LOTTO 6/49!
Dennis Hines had a few thoughts race through his mind when he checked the LOTTO 6/49 ticket he shares with his children, Richard, of Marwayne, and Shannon, of Airdrie. But not one part of him believed they had won the $18,680,003.80 jackpot on the July 10 draw.
“I thought it was joke,” he said while claiming his prize with children. “I saw all of those zeroes and thought, ‘Yeah, right!’”
“When I looked at it again, I thought it said $86,000 or something like that,” he continued. “I never thought it would be anything close to $18 million!”
The family patriarch said he didn’t waste time in the store, he walked out and called his kids to give them the good news.
“None of us could believe it,” said Richard. “It’s a huge amount to wrap your head around.”
The family said even now, weeks after discovering their win, they’re still trying to come to terms with the magnitude of it. “I think we’ve all been so surprised that we haven’t really had a chance to think what we we’ll do with the money,” said Dennis. “Well, I guess I know one thing I’m going to do: I’m going to pay off the truck I bought myself a few months ago.”
The winners said they also plan to donate to a charity that’s close to their hearts.
Dennis purchased the group’s winning ticket at Marwayne Service and Café, located at 407 Railway Avenue South in Marwayne. The winning numbers for the July 10 LOTTO 6/49 draw were 4, 5, 18, 28, 35 and 42.
The Hines’ winning ticket was a LOTTO 6/49 Free Play that Dennis had won on the previous draw. He spent $1 to add EXTRA to the ticket.
