Why are you making changes to WESTERN 649?
WESTERN 649 has remained unchanged since it was first launched in February 1999. Players have become used to larger top prizes on lottery games over the years, and it was time to give the game an overhaul to better align with its national partner LOTTO 6/49.
How much does it cost to play?
The cost of the new WESTERN 649 remains the same - $1. For $1, you will now receive one six-number selection, instead of the two you received previously.
Why did you remove the additional Quick Pick?
The new WESTERN 649 game format has doubled the top prize to $2 million and has added the new Free Play and $3 prize categories. WESTERN 649 prizes are set amounts and a set cost to the prize structure, therefore, the new game could not support the new prizing and still offer the additional Quick Pick.
Will the WESTERN 649 Jackpot roll when it's not won?
No. Since it is only available in the west, WESTERN 649 has a significantly smaller pool of players than LOTTO MAX or LOTTO 6/49. This results in sales which do not support rolling Jackpots. The WESTERN 649 top prize is a set amount which is not dependent on build-up from previous draws and any money not won is used to pay for subsequent prizes.
Am I still able to play WESTERN 649 in Combination?
Certainly! WESTERN 649 combos are available at the same price as they were previously, only players will no longer receive an additional combination Quick Pick with every purchase.
Is WESTERN 649 still available in the Lotto Packs?
Yes. The WESTERN 649 $5 Pack, $6 649 Pack and $20 Super Pack are still available. However, the number of WESTERN 649 selections will be reduced by half.
