Whitehorse couple claim $1 million LOTTO MAX prize
Edwin and Laura Vanderkley are Yukon’s million-dollar lottery winners. The Whitehorse couple won a $1 million MAXMILLIONS prize on the Friday, July 13 LOTTO MAX draw.
Edwin bought the couple’s $11 quick pick ticket from Porter Creek Super A, located at 1406 Centennial Street in Whitehorse.
A few days after the draw, Laura read in the newspaper that a million-dollar winning ticket had been sold in the city.
“I emailed the winning numbers to Edwin so he could check the tickets,” she remembered. “He emailed me back that our numbers had matched.”
“We were both in disbelief!” she added.
Both Laura and Edwin wanted more proof that they really were Yukon’s $1 million LOTTO MAX winner. So, Laura downloaded the WCLC Lottery Manager app on her smartphone and used it to scan the ticket. They also stopped in at another lottery retailer to double-check the win through the lottery terminal.
The happy couple said they plan to use their windfall to pay some bills, and they’re thinking of buying a vacation property somewhere warm.
The two matched all seven numbers of one of the 21 draws for MAXMILLIONS prizes on July 13. Their winning numbers were 8, 9, 16, 17, 19, 36 and 42.
