$2.5 million LOTTO 6/49 win!
When her husband, Don, came home with tears in his eyes, June Katona thought something was very wrong. But Don had some unbelievable news to share. The Regina couple had won $2.5 million on LOTTO 6/49!
“I thought he was in some kind of trouble,” she remembered. “Then he handed me the ticket.”
“I thought we won $250,000,” she said. “Don told me to look again – there were too many zeroes!”
“I had to type it into Google to see how much it really was,” she laughed.
Don and June won their $2.5 million prize by matching all six of the winning numbers drawn on May 19–14, 15, 28, 34, 38 and 44. They shared the $5 million jackpot with another winning ticket purchased in Calgary.
Don checked the winning ticket a couple weeks after the draw. “I was shocked, and I had tears in my eyes,” he remembered. “I was really surprised at just how overwhelming it was.”
The Katonas have a few plans for their winnings, starting with putting some away for their future.
“Well, we’re going to retire a little sooner than we thought we would,” said Don. “We’re really happy to have that added financial security.”
The new millionaires said they also plan to do some travelling and some shopping.
Along with new furniture and appliances for their home, June can see herself in a new Jeep Cherokee.
“I’ve never had a brand-new car,” she said. “That’s on my bucket list.”
The Katonas’ winning ticket was a free ticket the couple redeemed at the Avon Rexall
Drug Store located at 420 Albert Street in Regina. They paid $1 to add EXTRA.
