Get ready for bigger LOTTO MAX jackpots!

The big jackpots you’re used to seeing on LOTTO MAX are going to get bigger, and at no additional cost. Starting this summer, Jackpots will be able to reach $60 million instead of the current $50 million.

MAXMILLIONS prizes will still start when the jackpot gets to $50 million. After that, both the jackpot and the number of MAXMILLIONS will grow, until the jackpot reaches $60 million. If a $60 million jackpot isn’t won, that amount will be re-offered, and we’ll keep adding more MAXMILLIONS.

To support the higher jackpot cap, the percentage of the prize pool allocated to the 5/7, 6/7 and 6/7 + bonus will be reduced slightly – as seen here:

Prize Category Current Prize Structure New Prize Structure
7/7 87% of pools fund 89.25% of pools fund
6/7 + bonus 4% of pools fund 3.15% of pools fund
6/7 4% of pools fund 3.35% of pools fund
5/7 5% of pools fund 4.25% of pools fund
4/7 $20 $20
3/7 + bonus $20 $20

Have questions? Here’s the answers:

Is the cost of LOTTO MAX changing?

No, LOTTO MAX will still cost $5 per play, and you’ll still receive three lines of seven numbers between 1 and 49 for that price.

Why are you making these changes?

Big jackpots have become more common than they were before LOTTO MAX arrived on the scene. We want to give our players a chance at jackpot levels they haven’t seen before.

Why are you adjusting the 5/7, 6/7 and 6/7 + bonus categories?

These changes will continue to support quick growth towards huge jackpots. But prizes in the 5/7, 6/7 and 6/7 + bonus will still be significant and attractive amounts. We’ve calculated that they’ll be about $100, $5,000 and $200,000, respectively. Of course, the actual amounts depend on the total number of winners in the category, as well as on sales and number of fixed prizes won.

When will the jackpot first get to $60 million?

We don’t know in advance what the jackpot will be when the changes are made; as always, it depends on sales and how often the jackpot is carried over. A $55 million and/or $60 million will happen at the first opportunity following the change this summer when a $50 million or $55 million jackpot is not won.

How will the jackpot and MAXMILLIONS grow after the change?

Jackpots will still start at a minimum of $10 million, and we expect growth up to $50 million will be the same as now. MAXMILLIONS will be in effect when the jackpot reaches $50 million. Then the jackpot and the number of MAXMILLIONS will grow until the jackpot cap of $60 million is reached.  If the jackpot is not won, MAXMILLIONS will be offered to each draw until the jackpot is won.

Example – possible jackpot growth*

$10M -> $15M -> $20M -> $30M -> $40M -> $50M+2 MAXMILLIONS ->$55M+4 MAXMILLIONS -> $60M+6 MAXMILLIONS -> $60M + X MAXMILLIONS

Note: this is an example only – the jackpot growth may vary depending on sales, amount of free plays and $20 prizes won each week, numbers of MAXMILLIONS prizes won, and the amount of unclaimed prize and promotional funding offered.
