Million-dollar LOTTO 6/49 prize won in Leduc!
August 18, 2021 is a day James Gillespie will never forget. It’s the day he won $1 million on LOTTO 6/49 – a day he’s been waiting for since the late 1980s.
“I haven’t missed a draw since 1987,” he said. “I started playing my numbers two years later and have been buying tickets every week ever since.”
The winner decided to take his love of the game even further, keeping each ticket to show off once he won a large prize.
“It started pretty simply,” he chuckled while claiming his prize. “I don’t check my tickets every week, so I would put my tickets into a pile in my sock draw.”
“Eventually I had a pretty big pile and I decided to keep them,” he continued. “I always knew I would win one day… and here we are!”
The long-time LOTTO 6/49 player said he has a couple of ideas for his million-dollar windfall, starting with retirement.
“I retired the day I found out I won the lottery,” he said. “I was walking around for four weeks not knowing I had all this extra money… that’s long enough!”
“I’m also going to going to share some of the money with my two boys,” he continued. “I’m not thinking of doing anything too fancy. I’m really happy just knowing I have financial freedom.”
The winner said he is also going to plan a trip to his hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick with his wife.
Gillespie purchased his winning ticket from Leduc Co-op Grocery, located at 5421 59 Street in Leduc. His Guaranteed Prize draw-winning number was 32815331-06.
